Safety is a continuous journey
which requires commitment from top
management to all staff of the Company.
Keppel Land adopts a proactive approach
in ensuring workplace safety and actively
engages its people, consultants and
contractors to achieve its goal.
For more details on the Company’s
health and safety efforts, please refer
to Keppel Land’s Sustainability
Report 2009.
Committing to the Health and Safety Policy
Health and safety takes top priority
at Keppel Land. Championing safety
from the top down, a safety policy
was signed off by the Group CEO and
communicated to employees as part
of the Company’s induction and
training programme. This policy,
together with information relating to
the Company’s occupational health
and safety measures are also available
on the Company’s intranet.
Keppel Land is committed to conducting
its business in a manner that protects
the health and safety of its employees.
To fulfill the policy, the Company is
committed to channelling adequate
resources, setting measurable targets
and monitoring the progress through
audits and periodic reviews. Conversely,
employees need to observe all safety and
health practices and take necessary
precautions from potential harm which
may arise out of work activities.
Keppel Land has in place a Board Safety
Committee (BSC) which monitors the
Company’s compliance with and
effectiveness of the Health and Safety
(H&S) policy to ensure that the policies
are aligned with industry practices.
The BSC is supported by the
Management Safety Committee which
spearheads safety initiatives and
formulates policies and guidelines on
workplace safety. Safety reports are
submitted to the BSC every month and
the committee meets quarterly to review
the policies and H&S issues that may
affect the Company.
Promoting Workplace Safety
The theme for 2009, Together We Care,
is a continuation of the Safety Starts
with Me campaign that was launched
in 2008. Together We Care extends
beyond equipping individuals with
knowledge and seeks to drive home
the importance of accountability to
one another and empower its staff
with the skills to create a secure work
environment for everyone.
Several safety campaigns were also
held throughout the year in Singapore,
China and India to propagate the safety
message. At Spring City Golf & Lake
Resort (Spring City) in Kunming, China,
Keppel Land held its inaugural annual
Safety Awareness and Award campaign
on 6 November 2009. Attended by
about 200 staff and contractors, the
event advocated safety practices and
ownership among employees and
contractors, and recognised outstanding
contributors in making Spring City a safe
and healthy place.
A three-day safety campaign was also
held at the worksite of the Elita Garden
Vista in Kolkata, India, to reiterate
the safety message. A safety slogan
Hum Banaye Sehat Aur Suraksha Mein!
(We will build in safety and health!) was
crafted to instill and nurture a safe and
efficient work culture. Awards were also
given to workers with exceptional safe
practices at work.
Keppel Land also organised the third
Annual Keppel Safety Convention which
was attended by over 600 participants
across the Keppel Group. The convention
saw robust sharing and exchange
of ideas and best practices, as well
as recognising the efforts of safety
champions. Keppel Land achieved
one Gold, two Silver and one Bronze
awards in the Safety Innovation Project
category of the Chairman Safety
Challenge competition for its
implementation of effective safety
programmes and initiatives.
Safety campaigns
at worksites including
overseas projects such
as in India, advocate safety
practices and ownership
among employees and
contractors.
